Abaris is training FAA inspectors in composites
Abaris Training- Reno,NV & Griffin, GA.

Abaris will train FAA inspectors in composites

Abaris Training has won the contract with the Federal Aviation Administration to train FAA aviation safety inspectors in advanced composite maintenance and repair.

Inspectors will learn basic principles of advanced composite structures to help them determine reliability of major composite repairs in the field and monitor successful maintenance of aircraft.  Classes for more than 190 students will begin in June and continue through the end of 2011 and continuing yearly as the contract is renewed.

Repair and maintenance of modern aircraft such as the Boeing 787, the Hawker 4000, and many others that use composite materials in primary structures, require detailed knowledge and techniques in a rapidly evolving industry.

Topics covered in the course, “Composite Awareness for the Aviation Safety Inspector,” reflect the growing use of composite materials in not only interior panels and control surfaces but also wings and fuselages.

For example, a key component of the class is familiarization with methods used to detect hidden damage in composite structures as part of maintenance procedures.  Inspectors will also learn how and why repair designs and processes must meet the same performance requirements as the basic structure of the aircraft.  Documentation, regulations, airworthiness and certification topics will be covered in depth.

Abaris has a 26-year history of providing effective training to high standards. “We have been using the services of Abaris composites training for many years at MidCoast Aviation and appreciate their hands-on personal training methods,” said Bill Kener, composites supervisor, MidCoast Aviation.  “Eighty percent of our composite shop technicians have attended numerous courses with continued benefits to their personal skill level and their ability to apply those skills for the benefit of (our) shop.”

Since 1983, Abaris has been setting standards for hands-on technical training in advanced composite design, repair, manufacture and inspection.  Abaris Training currently offers 20 classes that teach accepted best practices for engineers, supervisors and technicians in Reno, NV., Griffin, GA., the United Kingdom, and customer locations worldwide.   Abaris Training Instructors Awarded NCATT Certification
  Reno, NV & Griffin, GA

Abaris Training Instructors Awarded NCATT Certification

The National Center for Aerospace and Transportation Technologies (NCATT) has awarded five Abaris trainers the prestigious certification for training excellence. They are (from left to right) Mike Meringolo, Dave Castellar, Corrie Volinkaty, Bill Kinard and Jay Carpenter.
...
Funding by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2001 led to the creation of NCATT “to promote integrity, safety and professionalism in the aerospace workforce.” Recognition by NCATT demonstrates that these trainers have “met or exceeded the standard set by the people who know it best, industry experts working in the field.”

Michael Hoke, President of Abaris Training stated, “I am proud of our instructors for receiving this acknowledgement of the credentials they bring to every class they teach. This award also recognizes the true value of the hands-on approach that has distinguished the Abaris Training method for the last 28 years.”

Abaris Training is recognized as the global leader in hands-on instruction for the advanced composites industries with 26 standard courses ranging from Design and Analysis to Composites Fabrication and Damage Repair. To date, Abaris has trained over 17,000 students from 63 countries.

New for 2012! 3-Day Sandwich Structure Design course
  Reno, NV

The Sandwich Structure Design and Analysis course has been developed specifically for civil, mechanical, structural and aeronautical engineers who are involved with sandwich structures.  Participants without engineering training in composite laminate design are strongly encouraged to take our Mechanics of Composite Laminates course as a prerequisite.  This course is specifically designed for engineers who are responsible for the design and fabrication of sandwich structures. The application of composite materials as the facings is of particular interest and a focus of the design analysis in the course.

This course will cover the design requirements of sandwich structures.   Detailed stress analysis will be discussed with respect to design detail such as joints, and holes.   Other aspects of the course to be covered include environmental and longevity aspects, component quality issues and in-service support issues.

Several design exercises are undertaken during the course on classroom computers. Case studies will be used to reinforce the lectures. Participants in the course will be provided with a comprehensive set of course notes and other related documents, and a CD with the software files used on the course.
